Apple Has Helped Create 466,000 U.S. Jobs Since 2008

Apple recently announced that it has payed over $4 billion to third-party developers since the launch of the App Store on July 10, 2008. Apps are an essential part of the modern smartphone, and Apple continues to pave the way with the growing success of the App Store year after year.

Sparked by Apple’s initiative, 466,000 U.S jobs have been created through what is now called the “App Economy.” Jobs include those that now develop for other platforms, like Android and Windows Phone.

Journalism and Blogging

“So, let’s get this out of the way: a blog is something between a personal diary and a newspaper. It’s, entirely incidentally, published online, as it’s the cheapest publishing mass media available. And it allows anyone to join. That’s good in some aspects, but it also lets too much noise in. There is no filter or distinction between a diary and a newspaper online. And people who have online newspapers get confused, and treat their newspaper as an online diary, and launch into personal fights with colleagues from their company and other media.

I do have a problem with every single person with a blog on this planet being piled in with the greatest journalists of the 20th and the few remaining in the 21st century; people who uncover corruption scandals, report from places of conflict, people who have the self-control to spare you the fluff, and give you the real news; wise people, who not just inform you of facts, but teach you about how this world works. And I don’t pretend or want to stand up to all the scrutiny of being a real journalist, so I’m a blogger. So are millions more. And that’s good: we’re not journalists.

And sure, just as we have journalists online, increasingly, we have bloggers in print. It is a real problem.”

Where do you draw the line between journalism and blogging? What makes someone a blogger and not a journalist?

The classic approach to journalism was objectivity. Old school reporters who were at the top of their game told the facts, and their own opinions were rarely ever made known. They hid behind the words they wrote.

The internet has made it possible for anyone to “report” the news. You don’t need a pre-established platform, and you don’t even need a college degree. (Some of the most influential “reporters” in the online space are college dropouts.)

Blogging has been seen as something very personal, and for some reason people think that opinion disqualifies something from being “journalistic.”

The very idea of saying someone can “objectively” report something is ridiculous. Everyone is biased, even if they’re biased towards trying to be unbiased.

Opinion is something that’s starting to become more valued than facts and figures. There’s still plenty of room for both, but one no longer supersedes the other.

At least, that’s what I think.
